Coffer Dam
Some say it is one of the best fishing spots on the lake. Traveling by boat up the South Fork River—about 8 miles beyond the split with the Catawba—there's a little place where the water is clear and shallow. Largemouth bass are said to practically jump in your boat.

McDowell Nature Preserve
